Catholic Charities is the diocese’s primary provider of social services, offering compassionate, practical support across western North Carolina.
As communities grow, so does the demand for food assistance, counseling, disaster relief and other essential services. Catholic Charities needs greater capacity, stronger facilities and reliable long-term funding to help more people close to home.
Making Room will improve, expand and establish service locations so Catholic Charities can serve more people, strengthen parish collaboration and respond more quickly in times of crisis. This investment also includes a $10 million endowment to provide stable, long-term funding for essential programs and future needs.
Parishes across our diocese face very different circumstances. Some are responding to rapid growth, while others are caring for aging facilities, recovering from natural disasters or operating with limited resources.
Approximately one-third of diocesan parishes are considered under-resourced, with annual offertories of less than $250,000. Many cannot afford major repairs, facility maintenance or the ministries their communities need.
Making Room will establish a dedicated fund to distribute grants to under-resourced parishes and missions. This resource will provide more consistent support for emergencies, capital projects and long-term ministry needs.
